Main ingredients: milk, rice flour and jaggery.

Preparation: 15 minutes and cook time: 30 minutes (approx).

Serves: 4.




  1. ½ liter creamed milk.
  2. 2 tbsp sago/ saggu biyyam.
  3. 1 small cup rice flour.
  4. 1 small cup grated jiggery.
  5. 2 tbsp sugar.
  6. Small pinch salt.
  7. 1 tsp cardamom pwd.
  8. 1 tbsp ghee.
  9. A few cashew nuts.
  10. A few raisins.img_2036


  1. Soak the sago with little water for 15 minutes.
  2. Boil the grated jaggery along with sugar and a little water until 1 string consistency. Keep aside until use.
  3. Make the rice flour to a soft dough by adding sufficient hot water.
  4. Make the dough cylindrical shape and fill it into the chakralu maker/ muruku maker, close the lid.  Keep aside until use.
  5. Fry the cashew nuts and raisins in ghee until golden hue. Keep aside.


  1. Bring the milk to a boil along with same quantity of water.
  2. Add soaked sago and stir continuously for 7- 10 minutes or till the sago turn to soften.
  3. Press the chakralu maker carefully over the milk mixture and drop the rice flour strings (thalikalu) in it.
  4. Let stand for a few minutes without stirring.
  5. After a few minutes, stir again continuously for 5 minutes or till the thalikalu gets cooked.
  6. Finally add prepared cooled jaggery syrup, a pinch of salt, cardamom pwd, fried cashew nuts and raisins and mix.



Serve the delicious pala thalikalu hot or cool 🙂 🙂 .
