Main ingredients:  fish fillets spices and tamarind.

ANDHRA SPICY CHEPALA PULUSU

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 10- 12 fish fillets (neatly cleaned).
  2. 3-4 tbsp oil.
  3. 2 medium onion (chopped).
  4. 4-6 green chilies (slit length wise).
  5. 1 medium tomato (chopped).
  6. Salt- to taste.
  7. 1 big pinch turmeric pwd.
  8. 2 tsp red chilly pwd.
  9. 1 big lemon size tamarind (Soak and extract the pulp).
  10. Hand full chopped coriander leaves.

ITEMS FOR MASALA PASTE:

  1. 1” Ginger (chopped)/ adarak/ allam.
  2. 4-6 flakes garlic/ lehsun/ vellulli.
  3. 4 cloves/ lovng/ lavangalu.
  4. ½ tsp cumin seeds/ jeera/ jeelakarra.
  5. ½ “cinnamon stick/ dalchini/ dalchina chekka.
  6. 1 tsp coriander seeds/ dhania/ dhaniyalu.
  7. 1 tsp chopped coconut.
  8. 5-6 cashew nuts (optional).

PREPARATION:

  1. Grind the masala items to a fine paste in a mix jar.
  2. Marinate the fish fillets with salt, turmeric pwd, red chilly pwd, chopped onion, green chilies and masala paste for 5 minutes.

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a wide cooking vessel on medium flame.
  2. Place the marinated fish fillets gently and let it cook for a couple of minutes.IMG_9145
  3. Flip the fish fillets another side gently. Let it cook for another 3- 5 minutes.IMG_9155
  4. Now add tamarind pulp and 2 cups of water and cover with lid.IMG_9178
  5. bring it to a boil, reduce flame and simmer for about 15- 20 minutes or till the curry reaches to desired  gravy consistency.IMG_9181
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves.

This curry goes best with steamed rice.
