Main ingredients: idly batter and rice flour.

Prepare time: 10 minutes              Cook time: 15- 20 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 1 cup idly batter.
  2. 2 tbsp rice flour.
  3. 1 medium onion (finely chopped).
  4. 2 green chilies (finely chopped).
  5. ½ tsp cumin seeds.
  6. 1 sprig curry leaves- Chopped (optional).
  7. Salt- to taste.
  8. Oil- to deep fry.

  1. Mix the all above ingredients except oil.
  2. Heat oil in a deep bottomed frying pan.
  3. Once the oil gets hot, reduce the flame to over medium flame.
  4. Drop small balls of the batter with your hand into the hot oil.

  5. Turn the punugulu, when they start to change color.

  6. When the punugulu reach to light golden hue, drain on an absorbent paper.

  7. Serve hot with any chutney of your choice.

NOTE:

  1. The batter should neither have a thick consistency nor a thin. It should be medium.
  2.  If your batter is very thin, then it will absorb more oil. If so, then you can add a little rice flour to the batter to make it thick.
