Preparation and cook time: 45 minutes (approx).

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 250 broad beans/ chikkudukayalu ( remove string and ends and cut into 2-3 pieces).
  2. 1 medium onion (chopped).
  3. 2 green chilies (chopped).
  4. Salt- to taste.
  5. 1 pinch turmeric pwd.
  6. 1 tsp red chilly pwd.
  7. 1 tsp cumin seeds.
  8. 2 flakes garlic.
  9. 1 small cup chopped coconut.

TO TEMPERING/ TADKA/ TAALIMPU:

  1. 1 ½ tbsp oil.
  2. 1 tsp mustard seeds/ rai/ aavaalu.
  3. 1 tsp split black gram/ urad dal/ minappappu (skin less).
  4. 1 sprig curry leaves.

PREPARATION:

  1. In a pressure cooker, boil the broad beans pieces with enough water, up to 3 whistles. Drain and keep aside.IMG_5497

  2. Mean while, grind the chopped coconut along with cumin seeds, garlic flakes and red chilly pwd to course. Keep aside.

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a cooking pan on over low flame.
  2. Add mustard seeds, split black gram and let them splutter. Add chopped onion and green chilies and saute until translucent.

  3.  Add boiled broad beans, salt and turmeric pwd and stir fry for 7- 10 minutes or till the moisture evaporates.

  4. Finally add curry leaves and prepared coconut powder and stir fry for another minute.

  5. Serve with steamed rice.
