INGREDIENTS:

  1. 250 Gms dondakayalu/ivy gourds. Meric pwd.(wash, remove edges and cut into thin rounds).
  2. 1 medium onion (chopped).
  3. 2 green chilies. (chopped).
  4. Salt- to taste.
  5. 1 pinch turmeric pwd.
  6. ½ tsp red chilly pwd.
  7. 2 cloves garlic. (Slightly crushed).
  8. 1 sprig curry leaves.

TO TEMPERING:

  1. 1 tbsp oil.
  2. 1 tsp cumin seeds/ jeera/ jeelakarra.
  3. ½ tsp mustard seeds/ rai/ aavaalu.
  4. 1 tsp slit black gram/ urad dal/ minappappu.

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan on over low flame, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and split black gram.
  2. As they begin to change color, chopped onion and saute for a minute.

  3. Now add ivy gourd pieces (dondakaya), salt and turmeric pwd and stir occasionally for 15- 20 minutes or till the pieces tender and begin to change the color.

  4. Add red chilly pwd, curry leaves,green chilies and crushed garlic flakes and saute for 5 minutes.

Serve hot with rice.
