Main ingredients: sanagalu/ dry white chickpeas and tomatoes.

Preparation :15 minutes  and cook time: 15- 20 minutes.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 1 cup dry white chickpeas/ kabuli chana/ tella sanagalu. (soak overnight or for at least 6 hours).
  2. 1 big onion (roughly chopped).
  3. 3 green chilies.
  4. 2 medium tomatoes (roughly chopped).
  5. Salt- to taste.
  6. 1 big pinch turmeric pwd.
  7. ½ tsp red chilly pwd.
  8. ½ tsp chole masala pwd or garam masala pwd.
  9. 1-2 tbsp coriander pwd.
  10. ½ tsp ginger garlic paste.
  11. 2 tbsp fresh chopped coriander leaves/ cilantro.

TO TEMPERING:

  1. 1 Tbsp oil.
  2. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds/ jeera jeelakarra.
  3. ½ tsp aniseeds/ somp(optional).

PREPARATION:

  1. Pressure cook the soaked chickpeas for 3-4 whistles.
  2. Meanwhile, grind the chopped onion, tomatoes and green chilies to a fine paste.

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a cooking vessel on medium flame, add aniseeds, cumin seeds, ginger garlic paste and saute for few seconds.

  2. Add prepared onion tomato paste, salt and turmeric pwd and stir fry till the oil separates.

  3. Add cooked chickpeas, red chilly pwd, garam masala pwd and coriander pwd and mix.

  4. Now add water and mix.Sanagalu Masala Cury
  5. Bring it to a  boil. Cover with lid and simmer for 5-7 minutes or till the gravy slightly thicken.
  6. Mash a few chickpeas with the back of ladle to thicken the gravy.

  7. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve hot with steamed rice,chapattis, pulka, piris accompanied with onion and lemon slices.
