Main ingredients: drum sticks tomatoes and curd.

Preparation and cook time: 30 minutes.

  1. 2 long drumsticks (Wash and cut into 2” pieces).
  2. 2 medium tomatoes (chopped).
  3. 2 medium onions (chopped).
  4. 2 green chilies (chopped).
  5. 2-3 tbsp curd/ yogurt.
  6. Salt- to taste.
  7. 1 pinch turmeric pwd.
  8. ½ tsp red chilly pwd.
  9. 1 tbsp coriander pwd.
  10. ¼ tsp garam masala pwd.
  11. 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves/ cilantro.


  1. 1 ½ tbsp oil.
  2. ½ tsp mustard seeds/ aavaalu.
  3. 1 split black gram/ urad dal/ minappappu (skin less).
  4. ½ tsp cumin seeds/ jeera/ jeelakarra.
  5. 1 sprig curry leaves.


  1. Heat oil in a cooking vessel on over low flame.
  2. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and split black gram. Let them splutter,
  3. Add chopped onion, green chilies, drumstick pieces, salt and turmeric pwd and mix.IMG_2387
  4. Cook, stirring occasionally for 5-7 minutes or till the drumstick bits soften.IMG_2391
  5. Add chopped tomato. Cover with lid and let stand for 2 minutes (for tendering the tomatoes).
  6. Now remove lid and stir for 5 minutes or till the tomato pieces become mushy.IMG_2405IMG_2410
  7. Add curd, red chilly pwd, coriander pwd, garam masala pwd and mix.IMG_2416
  8. Add water and combine. Cover. Simmer for another 5-7 minutes or till the  curry reaches to required gravy consistency.IMG_2434

Serve hot with steamed rice.
