Man ingredients:  raw rice and curd.

Preparation: 15- 20 minutes. And cook time: 10 minutes.

Serves: 2-3.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 1 small cup raw rice (neatly washed).
  2. 1 cup creamed yogurt.
  3. Salt- to taste.
  4. 1 small piece ginger (grated).

TO TEMPERING:

  1. 1 tsp oil.
  2. 1 red chilly.
  3. ½ tsp cumin seeds/ jeera/ jeelakarra.
  4. ½ tsp mustard seeds/ rai/ aavaalu.
  5. 1 tsp split black gram/ urad dal/ minappappu (skin less).
  6. ½ Bengal gram/channa dal/sanaga ppappu.
  7. 1 big pinch black pepper pwd.
  8. 1 sprig curry leaves.
  9. a few cashew nuts (broken).(optional).
  10. 1 tbsp chopped cilantro. (optional).
  11. 2 tbsp pomegranate kernels (optional).

PREPARATION:

  1. In a pressure cooker place neatly washed raw rice. Add 2 ½ small cups of water and pressure cook up to 3-4 whistles.
  2. Mean while, heat oil in a small frying pan on low flame. Add red chilly, cumin seeds, mustard seeds split Bengal gram, split black gram and cashew nuts.
  3. When they start to change color, add pepper pwd, curry leaves and turn off flame. Keep aside.

METHOD:

  1. In a wide bowl, place the steamed rice and yogurt and mix well.

  2. Add salt, grated ginger, chopped cilantro and prepared tempering and mix everything well. (add little milk or water to the mixture for thinner consistency).

  3. Garnish with pomegranate kernels.
