Main ingredient:  raw chickpeas.

Preparation: 15 minutes.          Cook time: 7- 10 minutes(approx).

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 1 cup raw chickpeas / kabuli channa/ sanagalu (soaked overnight or at least 6 hours).
  2. Salt-to taste.
  3. ½ tsp sugar (optional).

TO TEMPERING:

  1. ¾ tbsp oil.
  2. 1 dry red chilly (tear).
  3. 1 tsp cumin seeds/ jeera/ jeela karra.
  4. 1 tsp mustard seeds/ rai/ aavaal.
  5. 1 tsp split Bengal gram (skin less)/ patchi sanaga pappu.
  6. 1 tsp split black gram (skin less)/ urad dal/ minappappu.
  7. ½ tsp grated ginger.
  8. 1 sprig curry leaves.
  9. 2-3 green chilies (slit length wise).

  1. In a pressure cooker, place the soaked chickpeas along with enough water.
  2. Add salt and sugar and pressure cook up to 3-4 whistles.
  3. Once cool, drain and keep aside.

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan.  Add dry red chilly, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, split black gram and split Bengal gram.

  2. When they begin to change color, add boiled chickpeas and saute for a few seconds. Add green chilly pieces and grated ginger and saute for 10 seconds.

  3. Now add curry leaves and red chilly pwd and saute another 10 seconds.

  4.  Adjust salt and turn off flame.

Sanagalu prasadam or gugillu is ready for neivedyam. We can have this as an evening snack also.
