Main ingredients: rice rawa and lemon.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 1 cup rice rawa.
  2. 1 ¾ – 2 cups water.
  3. 2 tbsp lemon juice.
  4. Salt- to taste.
  5. 1/4 tsp turmeric pwd.

TO TEMPERING/ TAALIMPU:

  1. 2 tbsp oil.
  2. 1 red chilly.
  3. A few cashew nuts.
  4. A few ground nuts.
  5. ½ tsp mustard seeds/ rai/ aavaalu.
  6. 1 tsp split black gram (skin less)/ urad dal/ minappappu.
  7. 1 tsp split Bengal gram (skin less)/ pachi sanaga pappu.
  8. 2 pinch asafetida/ hing/ inguva.
  9. 1 sprig curry leaves.

METHOD:

  1. Bring water to a boil in a heavy bottomed cooking pan.

  2. Pour the rice rawa into the boiling water with left hand gently and stir continuously with other hand by using ladle to prevent lumps.

  3. Add salt and a few drops of oil. (the oil prevents rawa from becoming sticky).
  4. Reduce flame. Cover and simmer for 7- 10 minutes till the water is absorbed and rice rawa is properly cooked.

  5. Let it cool completely, stir for a couple of minutes and keep aside.

  6. To prepare tempering, heat oil in a frying pan, add red chilly, mustard seeds, split black gram, split Bengal gram, cashew nuts peanuts.
  7. After they begin to change color, add asafoetida, and curry leaves.
  8. Turn off fame and pour this tempering to the cooked rice rawa.
  9. Add turmeric pwd and lemon juice to this mixture and mix well.
