  1. 1 small cup pesara pappu/ moong dal/ split green gram (skin less).
  2. 2 medium tomatoes (chopped).
  3. 1 small onion (chopped).
  4. 3-4 green chilies. (cut into rounds).
  5. Salt- to taste.

FOR TEMPERING:

  1. 2 tsp oil.
  2. 1  red chilly.
  3. 1 garlic flake (slightly crushed).
  4. 1/2  tsp cumin seeds/ jeera/ jeelakarra.
  5. 1/2 tsp split black gram/ urad dal/ minappappu.
  6. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds/ rai/ minappappu.
  7. 2 pinch hing/ inguva.
  8. 1 sprig curry leaves.

METHOD:

  1. In a cooking vessel, place 1 cup neatly washed moong dal/ pesara pappu along with 3 small cups of water. bring it  to a boil.

  2. Add chopped onion, green chilly bits, chopped tomato, salt and turmeric pwd.

  3. Cover partially, reduce flame,let it simmer for 7- 10 minutes.
  4. Once the gravy reduces to desired consistency, turn off flame and keep aside.

  5. To tempering, heat oil in a small frying pan, add red chilly, cumin and mustard seeds, split black gram.
  6. When the seeds splutter, add hing and curry leaves and pour this tempering over the cooked moong dal mixture and mix.

  7. Serve hot with puri, batura or any type of roti.
