INGREDIENTS:

  1. ½ kg chicken (neatly washed).
  2. 3 tbsp oil.
  3. 2 medium onions (chopped).
  4. 3-4 green chilies (chopped).
  5. 1 medium tomato (finely chopped).
  6. Salt- to taste.
  7. 2 pinch turmeric pwd.
  8. 1 tsp red chilly pwd.
  9. 1 tbsp coriander pwd.
  10. 2-3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.

FOR  GRAVY:

  1. 1 tbsp chopped coconut.
  2. 1 tbsp poppy seeds/ khas khas/ gasagasalu.
  3. Sesame seeds/ til/ nuvvulu.
  4. 10 black pepper corns/ kaali mirch/ miriyalu.
  5. Spices (6-8 cloves+ 1” cinnamon stick+ 2 cardamom).
  6. 1 tbsp coriander pwd.

PREPARATION:

  • Grind the chopped coconut along with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, pepper corns and spices to a smooth paste with a little water.

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a wide cooking vessel on medium flame.
  2. Add chopped onion and green chilies and sauté for a few seconds.

  3. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute until fragrant.
  4. Add chicken pieces, salt, turmeric pwd, red chilly pwd and stir fry till the oil separates.

  5. Add chopped tomato, coriander pwd, ground paste and stir fry for 10 sec.

  6. Now add 1 1/2 cups water and mix. Cook covered for 15- 20 minutes on low flame.

  7. When the curry reaches to thick gravy consistency, add coriander leaves and mix.

Serve hot with rice or roti.

NOTE:

  1. Instead of spices you can also use 1 tbsp chicken masala pwd.
  2. You can also replace cilantro with curry leaves.
