INGREDIENTS:

  1. 4 tomatoes (roughly chopped).
  2. ½ cup chopped coriander leaves.
  3. 3-4 green chilies.
  4. 1 tsp skin less black gram/ urad dal/ minappappu.
  5. Salt- to taste.
  6. ½“tamarind piece/imali/ chintha pandu.
  7. 1 tbsp oil.
  8. 1 tsp cumin seeds/ jeera/ jeelakarra.
  9. 2 flakes garlic/ lehasun/ vellulli.

FOR TEMPERING:

  1. 1 tsp oil.
  2. 1 red chilly (teared).
  3. ½ cumin seeds.
  4. 1 tsp split black gram (skin less).
  5. ½ tsp mustard seeds/ rai/ aavaalu.
  6. 1 sprig curry leaves.

Preparation of Tomato Coriander Chutney

  1. Heat ½ tbsp oil in a frying pan.
  2. Add skinless black gram and saute for a few sec. till it turns golden hue. Remove to a plate.
  3. Add green chilies in the same pan and saute for a 1o sec.
  4. Now add chopped coriander leaves and saute for couple of minutes. Remove to a plate.
  5. Pour remaining oil in the same pan and add chopped tomatoes and saute for 3-5 minutes till the tomato pieces turn to soften.
  6. Once cool, in a mix jar, first grind the roasted skinless black gram, salt, cumin seeds, flakes garlic and tamarind piece to a course.
  7. Now add sauteed tomatoes and coriander leaves and grind to course paste.
  8. To prepare tempering by heating the oil in a small pan, adding the red chilly, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, split black gram and let them splutter. Add the curry leaves and turn off flame.
  9. Pour this tempering over the chutney and mix.
