Main ingredients:  raw rice and moong dal/ pesara pappu.

Cook time: 15 minutes.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 1 cup raw rice. (neatly washed).
  2. ¼ cup Moong dal/ pepara pappu (neatly washed).
  3. 4 cups water.
  4. Salt- to taste.
  5. 1 pinch turmeric pwd.
  6. 1 pinch asafoetida/ hing/ inguva.

FOR TEMPERING:

  1. 2 tbsp ghee.
  2. 1 tsp cumin seeds/ jeera/ jeela karra.
  3. 1 tsp black pepper (slightly crushed).
  4. 10- 20 cashew nuts.
  5. 1 sprig curry leaves (optional).

METHOD:

  1. In a deep bottomed vessel, place the raw rice, moong dal and salt along with water.

  2. Keep the bowl in the pressure cooker and pressure cook up to 3 whistles.

  3. Let it cool.
  4. Mean while, heat ghee in a small frying pan on low flame.
  5. Add cashew nuts, cumin seeds.
  6. As they change in golden color, add crushed black pepper, turmeric pwd, asafoetida and curry leaves and turn off flame.

  7. Add the tempering in the cooked mixture and mix well.
