Main ingredients: ridge gourds (Beerakayalu) and milk.

Cook time: 20- 30 minutes (approx).

INGREDIENTS:

  1. ½ kg ridge gourds (washed,peeled and finely chopped).
  2. 1 cup milk.
  3. ½ cup water.
  4. 1 medium size onion (finely chopped).
  5. 3 green chilies (chopped).
  6. Salt to taste.
  7. 1 pinch turmeric pwd.
  8. ½ tsp red chilly pwd.
  9. 2 tbsp s chopped coriander leaves.

FOR TEMPERING:

  1. 1 ½ tbsp s oil.
  2. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds/ jeera/ jeelakarra.
  3. ½ tsp mustard seeds/ rai/ aavaalu
  4. ½ tsp split black gram (skin less).
  5. 1 sprig curry leaves.

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a cooking vessel on medium flame.  Add cumin seeds, split black gram, mustard seeds and Let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onion, green chilies, curry leaves, salt and turmeric pwd and saute for 5- 7 minutes till the oil separates.
  3. Add red chilly pwd and chopped coriander leaves and mix.
  4. Add milk and water and mix. Cover with lid and simmer for 15 minutes till the curry reaches to required gravy consistency.

Serve hot with rice or roti.
