Main ingredients: Mango and split red gram.           Cook time 30 minutes.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup split red gram. (Neatly washed).
  2. 1 medium mango (peeled and cut into 1” cubes).
  3. 1 medium onion (sliced).
  4. 4 green chilies. (slit length wise).
  5. 3 cups Water.
  6. Salt- to taste.
  7. 2 pinch Turmeric pwd.
  8. 1 and half tsp red chilly pwd.
  9. 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.

FOR TEMPERING:

  1. 2 tbsp oil.
  2. 2 Dry red chilies.
  3. 1 tsp Mustard seeds.
  4. 1 tsp Cumin seeds.
  5. 1 tsp split Bengal gram (skin less).
  6. 1 tsp split black gram (skin less).
  7. 1 pinch Asafetida/ hing/ inguva.
  8. 1 sprig curry leaves.

METHOD:

  1. In a cooking vessel, place the neatly washed split red gram dal along with water. Bring the dal to a boil on medium flame.
  2. Simmer for (approx) 15 minutes or till the dal par boiled.

  3. Add sliced onion, green chilies, mango cubes, chopped coriander leaves, turmeric pwd, red chilly pwd and salt and mix.

  4. Cover with lid and simmer for another 5-7 minutes, or till the mango dal is almost cooked.

  5. Turn off flame and mash the dal with ladle till the dal mixture is well combined and keep aside.

  6.  Heat oil in a small frying pan on over low flame, add mustard seeds, split Bengal gram, split black gram red chilies.
  7. As they begin to change color add asafoetida and curry leaves. Turn off flame and pour the tempering over the mango dal and mix well.
