Main ingredient: (godhuma ravva) wheat rava.     cooking time: 15 minutes.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 1 cup Wheat rava.
  2. 2 cups water.
  3.  1 medium onion (chopped).
  4. 2 green chilies (cut into rounds).
  5. Salt- to taste.
  6. 1” ginger (finely chopped).

FOR TEMPERING:

  1. 2-3 tbsp oil.
  2. ½ tsp Mustard seeds/rai/aavaalu.
  3. ½ tsp split Bengal gram (skin less).
  4. Split black gram (skin less).
  5. A few cashew nuts.
  6. 1 sprig curry leaves.

  1. Heat oil in a cooking pan, add mustard seeds, split Bengal gram, split black gram and cashew nuts.  As they change color add curry leaves, chopped ginger, chopped onion and green chilies and sauté for a minute.
  2. Add water and salt and mix. Bring it to a boil. Add wheat rava and mix well. Reduce flame.
  3. Cover with lid and simmer for 7- 10 minutes or until most of water is absorbed.
  4. Remove lid and stir once.
  5. Cover again and simmer for 2 minutes or until the wheat rava upma is properly cooked.
