Main ingredients: tomatoes and drumsticks (mulakkayalu).

Preparation and cook time: 30 minutes (approx).

Serves: 2-3.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 5 big tomatoes. (finely chopped).
  2. 2 drumsticks (cut into 5″ pieces).
  3. 2 medium onions. ( chopped).
  4. 3 green chilies (chopped).
  5. Salt- to taste.
  6. 1 pinch Turmeric pwd.
  7. 1 tsp red chilly pwd.
  8. 2 tbsp coriander leaves
  9. 10 curry leaves.
  10. one and half cup water.

FOR TEMPERING:

  1. 2-3 tbsp oil.
  2. 1 tsp cumin seeds.
  3. 1 tsp mustard seeds.
  4. 1 tsp split black gram (skin less).

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a cooking vessel on medium heat, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and split black gram and let them splutter.
  2. Add curry leaves, chopped onion, green chilies, drumstick pieces, salt and turmeric pwd and sauté for 5 minutes or until the mixture tender.

  3. Add chopped tomatoes, cover with lid and let stand for 5 minutes (for tendering the tomatoes).

  4. Remove lid and sauté for 5- 7 minutes.
  5.  Add red chilly pwd and chopped coriander leaves and mix. Add water and mix well. Cook till the gravy slightly thickens.

Serve with rice or roti.
