INGREDIENTS:

  1. Chicken (naatu kodi)- 1  Kg. (Neatly washed and drained).
  2. Ginger garlic paste- 1 tbsp.
  3. Salt – to taste.
  4. Red chilly powder- 1 tbsp.
  5. Coriander leaves- ½ bunch (finely chopped).
  6. Onions- 2 medium (chopped).
  7. Green chillies-4 (split)
  8. Curd- 1-2 tbsp.
  9. Water- 2-3 cups.
  10. Coconut piece-1 small (cut into small pieces).
  11. Cloves- 12-16  +  cinnamon – 1 inch stick +  cardamom- 2-3 +  coriander seeds – 1 tbsp. +cashew nuts- 4-6 + poppy seeds – 1 tbsp.  (all these above spices should be slightly roasted).
  12. Curry leaves- 2 strings.
  13. Turmeric powder-2 pinches.
  14. Oil- 3-4 tbsp.

PREPARATION:

Grind coconut pieces, along with roasted spices (ingredients of 10, 11) into a fine paste.

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:

Heat oil in a heavy  bottomed  cooking pan on medium flame. Add chopped onion and green chillies and sauté.  Add ginger garlic paste and stir fry until you get a nice aroma.

Now add chicken pieces, chopped tomatoes, coriander leaves, salt, red chilli powder and turmeric powder and combine. Cook for 10-12 minutes or till oil separates.

Add coconut paste and curd and combine. Then add water and mix well and cook on high flame.

Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and place lid and simmer for 20-30 minutes or till the chicken pieces are almost cooked. Turn off the flame, when you get the required gravy consistency. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

Serve hot with rice, pulav  roti or vadas.
