SERVING BOWL OF PULAGAM

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Raw rice-250 grams. (1 cup).
  2. Split green gram (skin less) – 50 grams.
  3. Salt- to taste.
  4. Turmeric powder- 2 pinches.
  5. Onion- 1 medium (chopped).

For TEMPERING:

  1. Oil- 2-3 tbsp
  2. Mustard seeds- ½ tea spoon.
  3. Split green gram (skin less) – 2 tea spoon.
  4. Cloves – 4-5.
  5. Cardmom-1.

Cinnamon – 1 inch stick

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:

Heat oil in a heavy bottomed non- stick pan on medium flame.  Add mustard seeds and split green gram and let it splutter. Then add chopped onions, cloves cardamom, and cinnamon stick and sauté for a minute.

Now add salt and turmeric powder along with water and combine. Cook on high heat.

Bring the mixture to a boil. Now add raw rice and combine. Cook covered on low flame for 15- 20 minutes or until the rice is almost cooked. Sauté and remove flame. And serve immediately.
