Ingredients:

  1. Chicken- 1kg. (neatly washed and drained).
  2. Salt- to taste.
  3. Turmeric powder-2 pinches.
  4. Chicken masala powder- 1 tea spoon. Or (roasted and powdered cloves-8, cinnamon 1 inch stick, cardmom-2).
  5. Red chilli powder- 3/4 table spoon.
  6. Coriander powder- 1 table spoon.
  7. Oil- 2 table spoons.
  8. Ginger garlic paste- 1 table spoon.
  9. Onion- 2 medium (chopped).
  10. Green chillies- 4 (split into 2 pieces).
  11. Coriander leaves- ½ bunch (finely chopped).
  12. Coconut – 1 piece. (cut into small pieces).
  13. Poppy seeds-1 table spoon.(put poppy seeds along with coconut pieces in a mix jar and grind it  to a fine paste).
  14. Tomato- 1 medium. (cut into cubes).

15.   Water-2-3 cups.

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:

Heat oil in a heavy bottomed cooking pan in a a cooking pan on medium to high heat. Add chopped onion and green chilly pieces and stir fry for a minute or till lightly brown. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté. When you get a nice aroma, add chicken pieces, salt and turmeric powder and combine. Cook for 10 minutes or till the oil separates.

Reduce heat for simmer. Add poppy seeds and coconut paste, red chilli powder and coriander powder and sauté for a minute.

Add chopped coriander leaves and water and sauté. Let it cook for 30-40 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked. When you get the desired gravy consistency turn off heat and serve hot with rice, pulav, pulka or non.
