On a hot summer afternoon, Chole curry with Poori or Chapatis makes a great snack.  Today, I thought I’d share this recipe passed along from my grandmother. This recipe is favored equally by north and south indians.

Ingredients:

  1. Chic peas – 1/4 kg
  2. Onions – 2 (cut into big pieces)
  3. Oil – 3 tbsp
  4. Green Chilies – 3 (cut into small pieces)
  5. Tomatoes – 2 (cut into small pieces)
  6. Coriander – 2 tbsp
  7. Salt – to taste
  8. Turmeric powder – 2 pinches
  9. Red chili powder – 1 tbsp
  10. Fennel seeds – 1/2 tbsp
  11. Garam Masala Powder – 1 tbsp
  12. Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
  13. Tomato ketchup – 4 tbsp
Preparation:

  1. Soak chic peas in water overnight. Boil the soaked chic peas until 3 whistles in a pressure cooker
  2. Prepare a paste from the onion pieces in a mix jar.
  3. Prepare a paste from the tomato pieces in a mix jar.
Cooking Instructions:

  1. Put the stove on medium heat and pour oil into the cooking pan. Once the oil is heated, put Fennel seeds, onion paste, green chilies, salt and turmeric powder one by one and then fry them for 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Add ginger garlic paste and fry until you get a nice aroma and then put tomato paste in the mixture. Fry them for 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Add red chili powder and boiled chic peas and mix it well.
  4. After 2 minutes, add tomato ketchup and 1 cup of water. Cook the mixture for 5 to 10 minutes. Then add garam masala powder and corinder pieces and turn off the stove.
